Inside the legend of AWP | Dragon Lore, Counter-Strike's most coveted skin

AWP | Dragon Lore first appeared in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive in July 2014, designed by Valve as part of the Cobblestone Collection, according to Esports.gg News.

The skin launched alongside Operation Breakout, only the fourth time-limited event the game had seen, which ran from 1 July to 2 October 2014. That Operation introduced three new collections – Baggage, Overpass and Cobblestone – with Dragon Lore sitting at the top of the Cobblestone set as its sole Covert-rarity item, alongside Classified pieces such as P90 | Asiimov and M4A1-S | Cyrex.

The design features a custom-painted knotwork dragon running along the rifle's body, set against pale ornamental detailing and darker green shading, with the scope and smaller components finished in a green-and-black check pattern. Esports.gg News notes the medieval theme was chosen to match the setting of Cobblestone, the map the collection was built around.

Dragon Lore is available across all five standard wear levels, from Factory New through to Battle-Scarred, but its float range runs only from 0.00 to 0.70, meaning the most heavily degraded copies that other skins can reach simply do not exist for this weapon. It has no StatTrak variant, and its paint seed does not generate a rarer alternative pattern, so wear condition and applied stickers are what separate valuable copies from ordinary ones.

Base versions of the skin currently range from roughly $4,200 to $9,900 depending on wear, Esports.gg News reports.

The skin also comes in a Souvenir form, obtainable only from Cobblestone Souvenir Packages tied to Counter-Strike Majors. Cobblestone featured in the competitive map pool across several Majors starting with ESL One Cologne 2014, and its Souvenir Packages remain available years later without needing a key to open. Even so, the odds are steep: Covert-rarity drops from Souvenir Packages sit at a 0.0256% chance, and Dragon Lore is the only Covert skin the Cobblestone package can produce.

Souvenir copies carry team and player stickers from the specific match they dropped during, and the sticker format has shifted over the years. At PGL Krakow 2017, for instance, a Souvenir weapon could carry Gold stickers for both competing teams plus a Gold autograph sticker for the player named MVP of that round, according to Esports.gg News. Particular sticker combinations have pushed certain Souvenir Dragon Lores into multi-thousand-dollar collectible territory, with some of the rarest examples reported to have sold for more than $61,000.

More than a decade after its release, Dragon Lore's combination of scarcity, Major-tied provenance and sticker variation keeps it near the top of Counter-Strike's cosmetic hierarchy, with Souvenir copies from earlier tournaments commanding the steepest prices in the current market.
