Wolves Esports sweep A Team, set up KeepBest Gaming rematch at VCT Threshold
Wolves Esports beat A Team 2-0 to reach the Week 1 quarterfinals of VCT Threshold China, keeping alive a route back into VCT China after losing partner status.

Wolves Esports swept A Team 2-0 on Wednesday to open their VCT Threshold China 2026 campaign, according to Esports.gg News and Esports Insider.
The Wolverhampton Wanderers-owned organisation progresses to the Week 1 quarterfinals in Shanghai, where they will face KeepBest Gaming.
It was not a straightforward victory. A Team, an unranked roster featuring monk and Eren, pushed Wolves hard across both maps, with the opener running 43 minutes and the second map lasting 54, Esports Insider reported.
The result matters well beyond a single bracket position. Wolves are one of four current VCT China partners to lose their status for the 2027-2028 cycle, a development first reported by Sheep Esports and cited by Esports.gg News. Titan Esports Club, FunPlus Phoenix and Nova Esports were also overlooked, as the region's partner slots shrink from ten to eight.
A tweet from journalist ben (@matchdayben), referenced in the Esports.gg News report, outlined the practical fallout: missing out on Riot's Partner Program means Wolves lose baseline financial support and direct qualification to top-tier events, though they can still qualify through open competition.
Threshold China now represents the clearest remaining path back into the top flight. The tournament is the final event of China's Nationals season, replacing Valorant Challengers there and following the structure of the old Ascension format, Esports Insider noted. Two teams will emerge from Shanghai as 2027 VCT China guest teams.
How the bracket works
Thirteen teams are competing at THE HUB Performing Arts Center in Shanghai, drawn from five VCT China sides and seven China National Tournament sides. Week 1, running from 21 to 25 October, is a single-elimination bracket in which the winner secures a 2027 VCT China place outright.
Crucially, a Week 1 exit does not end a team's tournament. Losers drop into a Week 2 single-elimination playoff, joined by one further national team, running from 27 October to 1 November. All matches are best-of-three except the grand final, which is best-of-five.
Liquipedia rates Threshold China as an A-Tier event, though the prize pool has yet to be confirmed by organisers.
The road to KeepBest
Wolves, who sit at rank 245 in the Elo power rankings, arrive at the quarterfinals with mixed recent form. They lost 0-2 to KeepBest Gaming at the China Evolution Series Act 3 in 2026, and were also beaten by EDward Gaming, Dragon Ranger Gaming and FunPlus Phoenix during VCT China Stage 2.
That Stage 2 campaign also produced Wolves' first win over Wednesday's opponent, A Team, whom they beat 2-1 on 8 August during the Play-Ins. Neither side advanced to Champions from that bracket, with TYLOO and JD Gaming taking the region's two direct places instead.
A Team's own form coming into Threshold was shaky, having lost 1-2 to FunPlus Phoenix in their previous outing.
Wolves now get a second crack at KeepBest Gaming, the side that beat them in their most recent meeting, with a 2027 VCT China guest slot among the stakes still on the table in Shanghai.
