Gen.G seal quarter-final spot with Swiss comeback over LYON
The LCK champions dropped game one but rallied to beat LYON 2-1 and finish the Worlds 2026 Swiss Stage with a perfect record, while LYON must fight on in Round 4.

Gen.G have booked their place in the Worlds 2026 quarter-finals after beating LYON 2-1 in a best-of-three that kicked off at 20:55 on Sunday 25 October, according to Esports Insider.
The result closes out the Swiss Stage for the LCK representatives with a clean sweep, having already taken 1-0 victories over Invictus Gaming and Hanwha Life Esports earlier in the event.
LYON, by contrast, must now wait for Round 4 to try to confirm their own berth in the knockouts.
LYON looked firmly in control of the opening game, taking the first Baron the moment it spawned at the 20-minute mark without losing a player, then securing a second after winning a five-versus-five fight before marching to the Nexus.
Dot Esports singled out jungler Inspired and bot laner Berserker's Kalista as the standout performers behind that win, while Gen.G's Canyon struggled to land his ultimates on Qiyana.
Gen.G hit back hard in game two. A decisive teamfight in the top lane at the 23-minute mark handed them both Baron and the Dragon Soul, squaring the series at a game apiece.
The decider swung early when Gen.G lost their Galio in a teamfight, but Kiin's Camille arrived via Teleport to stabilise the map. Gen.G then broke the mid inhibitor, picked up three dragons and closed the match out by winning the final fight.
The scoreline ran against the pre-match form guide. Esports Insider notes Gen.G sit fourth in the tournament's Elo power rankings on a rating of 1868 with a 118-30 record, well clear of LYON in 28th on 1720 with a 34-28 mark.
It was LYON's first loss of the event after opening the Swiss Stage with 1-0 wins over Team Secret Whales and Karmine Corp, leaving them at 2-1 heading into Round 4, where a single further win would send them through to the Knockout Stage.
LYON arrive with pedigree against bigger names this season. Esports Insider recalls the side eliminating G2 Esports from MSI 2026 with a 3-0 sweep on 10 July 2026, a series in which Inspired was named MVP.
G2, the LEC's representative at Worlds, suffered their own Round 3 setback, falling 1-0 to Top Esports in Allen.
Elsewhere on the card, Dplus KIA swept Movistar KOI 2-0, with Smash recording the tournament's first pentakill in the opening game of that series. Invictus Gaming also beat Hanwha Life Esports 1-0 in a match between two sides already eliminated by Gen.G earlier in the stage.
The Swiss Stage runs across five rounds at the Credit Union of Texas Event Center in Allen, Texas, with three match wins enough to advance and three losses resulting in elimination. Round 4 is scheduled for 28 to 30 October, with Round 5 following on 31 October, ahead of quarter-finals set for 3 to 6 November at the same venue.
