Four Teams Open Worlds 2026 Play-In for One Swiss Stage Spot
Cloud9 Kia, Karmine Corp, FURIA and MVK Esports begin the Worlds 2026 Play-In in Los Angeles, with only one side advancing to the Swiss Stage.

Worlds 2026 gets under way on 16 October with a four-team Play-In bracket at Riot Games Arena in Los Angeles, according to Esports.net News. The stage runs through 19 October, and only one of the four competing teams will progress to the 16-team Swiss Stage.
The opening series pairs Cloud9 Kia, representing North America, against EMEA side Karmine Corp. Brazil's FURIA then meets Asia-Pacific representative MVK Esports, with that match scheduled for 8:00 a.m. KST, per Esports.net News.
Every Play-In series is played as a best-of-five, and the bracket uses double elimination, meaning a single loss will not immediately end a team's run.
Karmine Corp is appearing at a World Championship for the first time, having finished runner-up at both the LEC Versus season kickoff event and the Spring Split. Its top and mid lanes are held by Canna (Kim Chang-dong) and kyeahoo (Kang Ye-hoo), both former LCK players. Cloud9 Kia fields Thanatos (Park Seung-gyu) and Loki (Lee Sang-min) in the equivalent roles.
Cloud9 Kia reaches the Play-In after topping the LCS Spring Regular Season with a 7-0 record, then confirming qualification with a 3-1 Summer Playoffs win over LYON.
FURIA qualified as CBLOL Split 1 champion, a result that also sent the side to MSI in Daejeon, and enters Worlds as Brazil's No. 2 seed following a second-place finish in Split 2. MVK Esports took its place through championship points after finishing third in LCP Split 3.
The winner of this bracket joins the 15 teams already locked into the Swiss Stage, which begins on 24 October in Allen, Texas. Gen.G, Hanwha Life Esports, T1 and Dplus KIA — the LCK's four representatives — start their campaigns directly in that stage rather than in Los Angeles.
LCK teams have won 10 of the previous 15 World Championships, and Esports.net News notes that a further title would extend the region's run of consecutive wins since 2022 to five.
In the Swiss Stage, teams advance to the Knockout Stage on reaching three wins and are eliminated on three losses. Most matches are best-of-one, while games that decide qualification or elimination are played as best-of-three.
The quarterfinals and semifinals are also set for Allen, with surviving teams moving to best-of-five formats through the rest of the Knockout Stage. The tournament concludes at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, where the Grand Final is scheduled for 15 November at 4:00 a.m. KST.
