Eight Counter-Strike 2 teams are competing for a $1 million prize pool at the Thunderpick World Championship 2026, running from 14 to 18 October at BLAST Arena Studios in Malta, according to Esports Insider.

The field is headlined by FURIA, Team Falcons and Aurora Gaming, with seven of the eight places awarded through Valve Regional Standings rankings and the eighth earned via a global qualifier, Esports.gg News reported.

Virtus.pro were unable to attend because of visa issues, and Ninjas in Pyjamas took their place in the lineup, per Esports Insider.

The competition is split into two double-elimination groups. Group A contains 9z Team, Team Falcons, Ninjas in Pyjamas and Aurora Gaming, while Group B features Legacy, PARIVISION, FURIA and BetBoom Team. The top two sides from each group progress to the playoffs.

Opening-day results on 14 October went in favour of the stronger seeds across both groups. 9z beat Aurora 2-0, Falcons swept Ninjas in Pyjamas 2-0, Legacy took a clean win over PARIVISION, and FURIA defeated BetBoom 2-0, setting up the remaining advancement and elimination matches in the group stage.

The group stage runs through 16 October before the playoff bracket opens on 17 October, culminating in semifinals, a third-place match and the grand final on 17 and 18 October.

Esports Insider noted that some leading organisations skipped the tournament entirely because of calendar pressure elsewhere in the CS2 schedule, meaning the compact five-day format is being contested by a smaller but still well-resourced field.

The $1 million prize pool places Thunderpick's championship among the more significant stops on the current CS2 calendar, sitting alongside other established tournaments that compete for team availability and viewer attention during an increasingly crowded autumn schedule, Esports Insider reported.

Prize money is only one part of the financial picture for events at this level, with organiser revenue and team opportunities also tied to broader commercial streams around competition — a dynamic Esports Insider has separately examined in relation to prize pools and sticker revenue at the IEM Cologne Major.

Matches are being broadcast on official Thunderpick channels via YouTube, with the playoff stage and grand final expected to decide which of the eight teams walks away with the largest share of the $1 million pool.
