Cloud9 Eliminated From Worlds 2026 After FURIA Fightback

FURIA stormed back from a Game 1 defeat to beat Cloud9 3-1 in the Play-In Lower Bracket, sending North America's LCS third seed out of Worlds 2026 in last place.

Cloud9 are out of Worlds 2026, becoming the first team eliminated from the tournament after FURIA fought back to win their Play-In Lower Bracket series 3-1 on Friday 16 October, according to Esports.net News.

Cloud9 took Game 1, but FURIA won the next three maps to close out the series before it could reach a deciding fifth game. As a lower-bracket tie, there was no margin for Cloud9 to recover once the momentum turned.

The defeat leaves Cloud9 19th out of the tournament's 19 teams, the lowest finish in the field, and takes North America's LCS third seed out of the Swiss Stage race via this Play-In route entirely.

Both teams had already dropped a series before meeting. Cloud9 lost 3-2 to Karmine Corp on the opening day, while FURIA had been swept 3-0 by MVK Esports, sending each side into the lower bracket before they met.

The result extends a run that has repeatedly favoured the Brazilian side: FURIA have now beaten Cloud9 in four consecutive series since 2025, Esports.net News reported. Their earlier meetings at the inaugural America's Cup were similarly one-sided, with FURIA going 8-0 against North American opposition, including five wins over Cloud9, en route to winning that title.

FURIA's route to the Swiss Stage

Cloud9's elimination does not close the qualification picture in this bracket. FURIA were due to face MVK again in the Lower Bracket Final on Saturday 17 October, with the loser eliminated this time.

Karmine Corp had already secured its place in the next round by sweeping MVK 3-0 in the Upper Bracket Final, having won both of its Play-In series so far. The French side was set to meet the FURIA-MVK winner on Sunday 18 October for the single remaining ticket into the Swiss Stage.

That leaves FURIA needing to beat MVK a second time and then overcome a Karmine Corp side that has already shown it can finish a series in straight maps, before any Swiss Stage place is secured.

Cloud9's Worlds campaign ends with a confirmed finish of 19th place and $30,000 in prize money, well short of the deeper knockout run the organisation had targeted heading into the tournament.

Esports.net News cautioned against reading too much into a single result for the wider region, noting that Cloud9's exit removes North America's LCS third seed from this particular route but does not by itself settle any broader judgement on the league's international form. The rest of the Worlds field remains the context against which that question will be answered.
