NAVI dump world number one Spirit out of PGL Masters Bucharest
A 2-2 Swiss decider sent HLTV's top-ranked Team Spirit home from PGL Masters Bucharest 2026, with Natus Vincere advancing to face a Vitality side fielding stand-in jL in Wednesday's quarter-finals.

Team Spirit's run at PGL Masters Bucharest 2026 ended before the playoffs began, with Natus Vincere eliminating the HLTV.org world number one in a deciding 2-2 Swiss-stage match, as reported by Esports Insider.
The series swung heavily through three maps. NAVI took control early on Cache, Spirit hit back to level the tie on Dust2, and NAVI closed it out on Anubis to confirm Spirit's exit from the $1.25 million tournament.
HLTV reported that the result marked Spirit's first defeat to NAVI since February 2025, underlining how significant the upset was given Spirit's standing at the top of the world rankings.
NAVI's own route to the playoffs was far from smooth. They opened with 2-0 wins over G2 and FURIA, with the second map against G2 stretching to three overtimes, before back-to-back defeats threatened to derail their campaign. BetBoom beat them 2-0, taking Dust II 13-10 and Nuke 13-9, and Vitality then beat them on Inferno 13-2 and Dust II 13-9, dropping NAVI into the 2-2 pool where a further loss would have ended their tournament.
Spirit's path to the decider also carried warning signs. They lost 1-2 to MOUZ on 27 October, winning Nuke 13-2 before falling 13-8 on Dust2 and 16-14 on Mirage.
Elimination at this stage carries a defined financial cost under the tournament's structure. Teams finishing ninth to eleventh each receive $31,250, while every losing quarter-finalist takes $50,000, with the eventual winners' share split between players and organisation.
Spirit were not the only big name to fall in the Swiss stage. The MongolZ and Legacy were also eliminated, as detailed by Esports.gg News, opening space for less-fancied sides to reach the playoff bracket. Nemiga beat The MongolZ 2-0 and FURIA beat Liquid 2-0 on the final day of group play to claim the last two playoff spots.
The quarter-final draw now pits NAVI against Vitality, Nemiga against FUT Esports, Aurora against MOUZ, and BetBoom against FURIA. The NAVI–Vitality tie is an immediate rematch of the group-stage meeting Vitality won, and it comes with Vitality still without a full-strength roster: the organisation confirmed in August that Justinas 'jL' Lekavicius would stand in for the team at both BLAST Open Porto and PGL Masters Bucharest.
Esports.gg News reported that the playoff stage runs across three days, from 29 to 31 October, with no rest day inserted after the Swiss phase. The eight qualified teams play single-day, best-of-three quarter-finals, before the format shifts to the more conventional semi-final and third-place structure, with the grand final held as an extended best-of-five.
NAVI's own tournament messaging frames Bucharest as the penultimate major event before PGL Major Singapore 2026, adding extra weight to a deep playoff run for any side still competing in Romania this week.
