Gen.G sweep LYON to leave Worlds 2026 without a team from North America

Gen.G beat LYON 3-0 in Allen, Texas, to end North America's run at Worlds 2026 and book a semi-final against Invictus Gaming, Esports Insider reported.

The result removes North America's last remaining team from the tournament. Gen.G, the LCK's top seed, now meet iG in a best-of-five on Saturday, with a 16:00 Central Time start.

Gen.G's record through the group stage gave them first choice of side for the opening game. They picked blue and stayed on that side for all three games of the sweep.

Reaching the final four guarantees Gen.G at least third or fourth place, a finish the organisation knows well. According to GosuGamers, Gen.G have landed in that bracket at four of their last five Worlds without ever reaching a final.

The wider context matters for the LCK as a region. Gen.G went into the event as Korea's top seed, with Korean teams chasing a fifth consecutive Summoner's Cup.

Invictus Gaming arrive with their own comeback story. They beat Top Esports 3-1 in the opening quarter-final to reach their first Worlds semi-final since 2019, with TheShy and Rookie - both part of iG's title-winning 2018 roster - back in the competition's closing stages.

The prize pool for Worlds 2026 stands at US$5,000,000. The eventual champion takes a 20% share worth US$1,000,000, with US$800,000 going to the runner-up.

For LYON, elimination still represents their strongest Worlds showing. They finish joint fifth to eighth and collect a share of the prize fund, a result GosuGamers described as the organisation's best at the event. LYON had never previously finished higher than 17th across four prior Worlds appearances.

Their exit means North America has no team left in either semi-final or the Grand Final, with the remainder of the knockout stage in Allen contested solely between LCK and LPL representatives.

British fans following the tournament will have a dedicated venue for the finale. The British Esports Federation is hosting a watch party for the Grand Final at the new British Arena in Sunderland, the venue's first esports event of this kind.

The Grand Final is scheduled for 14:00 Eastern Time on 14 November. The Sunderland watch party runs from 5:30pm on the day of the final through to 1am on 15 November.

The British Arena venue covers 15,000 square feet and includes a 17-metre-wide LED screen, a 200-seat viewing area and a bar, with discounted tickets available for students.

Whether Gen.G or Invictus Gaming reach that final will be decided in Allen on Saturday.
